Are you drinking too much? Do you wake up each morning either feeling hungover or tired and irritable? Do you spend most nights with a glass of wine or beer beside you? If so you are our therapy for drinking program may be just what you need.
Our Drink Less Alcohol Program is not designed for alcoholics but it is designed for people who drink regularly and need to take back control over their alcohol consumption. In particular, we look at helping our clients to break habits they have around alcohol and address any underlying problems that may be creating a problem.
So What is Problem Drinking
There is a difference between problem drinking and alcoholism. An alcoholic is physically and mentally addicted to alcohol and needs to drink daily. They do not have periods when they are not drinking and can’t take it or leave it on some days as problem drinkers can.
A problem drinker may have periods when they don’t drink at all but then have periods when they drink every day or drink to excess at a particular event. We know that most problem drinkers are using alcohol for another purpose such as:
- Managing Anxiety & Stress
- Feeling more confident
- Distraction from uncomfortable emotions
- To feel more sociable
Interestingly the Office for National Statistics found that 1 in 5 Higher earners drank alcohol on 5 days or more a week. This will be partly because they have more money to drink but also because they are likely to be in more stressful jobs.
If you are regularly drinking more than 14 units a week or are drinking every night then our Drink Less Therapy program is designed to help you moderate your alcohol intake by changing bad habits and helping negative thoughts or emotions.
Self Hypnosis to Stop Drinking
In most cases, our clients who like to drink daily have two main issues. Firstly they have an ingrained habit or conditioned response that makes them do the same thing every night.
Secondly, stress and anxiety tend to be involved. Our clients find that they may be trying to juggle stressful jobs and family issues and find that it can be hard to switch off from these worries when they come home in the evening. At some point, they learned that a drink helped them to take the edge off their day and bit by bit their drinking increased until they were doing it every night.
Our Self Hypnosis to Stop Drinking audio involves deep relaxation and suggestions to alter subconscious thoughts and habits. When used regularly it can help to reduce feelings of stress or anxiety. All our clients on our drink less program are given this audio to use to help change their mindset. You can try it for yourself even if you don’t join the program to use at home.
Self-help to stop drinking can be a useful tool to use initially to change bad habits or increase motivation. It does not replace a therapist but it can be a cheap and easy alternative to starting the ball rolling on your alcohol reduction.
We also have a series of worksheets and printables to help you learn to change your habits. These can help you to be more mindful about what you drink and teach you to tackle your emotions rather than using alcohol as a way of dealing with them. Again all our clients on our program are given these however you can get access in our online store.

Drink Less Therapy
If you want to take things a little further then we offer a four-session drink less program which involves one to one sessions with a therapist. These sessions can be taken online or face to face if you live near our clinics. During the program we address:
- Stress and Anxiety
- Emotions and Alcohol
- Habits
- Motivation
- Lifestyle
- Sleep
- Relationships
- Mindful Drinking
Issues with alcohol are not always about one particular problem but a combination of issues. For example, you may have started drinking to ease stress and anxiety but you have also now created a habit which needs to be broken. We take a holistic approach by looking at the bigger picture to see that can be done to create positive change.
We help our clients to change negative thinking patterns and take time out to reduce stress and anxiety. We will help you to be more mindful of what you are drinking and give you tips and strategies to make this easier.
Hypnosis is used in our sessions to help change subconscious thought patterns and to help you visualise doing things differently. It can also be used to trace any emotional root causes that at this point may not seem obvious.
As with any drink less therapy, this is a two-way process and it requires input and effort from you. The idea behind the program is to give you a helping hand to create change which may have seemed too difficult to do just by yourself.
